MahaPECOnet 2.0
MahaPeconet has identified key thematic areas and sub-themes that need immediate interventions in the ongoing pandemic to prevent exacerbation of vulnerabilities amongst the communities of Maharashtra. These areas-specific interventions can also strengthen marginalised groups in times of no disaster and those located in unfavourable climate geographies.
HOUSING AND ESSENTIAL SERVICES
Ensuring respectable Quality of Life for all
Housing is considered a fundamental human right and it is our prime focus to provide housing along with the most basic and essential services to the communities hit hard by the pandemic. We support urban and rural poor, homeless, sanitation workers, rag pickers, residents of informal settlements/chawls/SRAs, children, youth, PwDs, elderly, tribal communities etc., by providing them with shelter and camps for their rehabilitation and WASH facilities, specifically for the welfare of children and adolescent girls.
We also provide health insurance and Public Health Infrastructure for health-related emergencies, nutrition meals, especially for communities, hit hard by malnourishment and education infrastructure and services such as virtual schooling for school-going students and skill development programs and access to PwDs to the youths.
Social Protection and Entitlements
Social Welfare lies at the heart of our interventions
We empower vulnerable groups like urban poor, sex workers, migrants, etc. by facilitating documentation and provision of their ration cards, PAN cards, Aadhar cards, etc. The availability of these documents makes it feasible for these groups to access various benefits from government schemes and programs.
We also register them with trustworthy welfare boards and advocate them for social protection and entitlements to fight against trafficking. We promote them to take livelihood opportunities available nearby and also provide benefits like Direct Cash Transfer which fulfil their essential daily needs on an immediate basis. Our relief works also include food distribution, both cooked meals and ration distribution by working closely with the local and regional administration.
Informal Labour and Livelihoods in both Rural and Urban Settings
Equity for farmers, labourers and migrant workers
Over 70% of India lives in villages and the agriculture sector provides livelihood to over 58% of the Indian population. The informal/unorganised sector constitutes 90% of the Indian workforce and contributes around 50% of the total GDP.
Marginal Farmers and Landless Labourers and Seasonal and Permanent Migrant Workers are another very important group of the population we cater to. We work towards providing farmers rights and labour rights through advocacy. Tech-based interventions in agriculture to promote crop yield, crop insurance and access to credit for farmers, conservation and protection of forests and tribal lands are some of the interventions we are passionate about and work closely with.
Building Locally Led Adaptation and Community Resilience
We use Partnerships to build powerful Communities
MahaPeconet strongly believes in a bottom-to-top approach to solve the complex problems of grassroots communities. We work closely with Self-help Groups, rural and tribal women, CBOs, local government bodies and political leaders towards disaster management, disaster risk reduction, sustainability and climate change.
Community Action and Resilience including Urban Resilience, Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation for Community Resilience and Social Sector Recovery for early restoration and building back better are at the core of our programs to build resilient communities, enabling them to fight with adverse climatic conditions and predictable and unpredictable disasters, including a pandemic like Covid.
Jeevan Rath 4.0- Skill Development
Employment & Entrepreneurship to build a sustainable future
MahaPeconet in partnership with members, stakeholders from the government, industries, donors and others directly designs and implements programmes around skill development, employment and entrepreneurship as well as post-Covid readiness education-based programmes.
We plan the programmes, identify and mobilise affected population to enrol for skill development, education, employment and entrepreneurship, train them, build their capacities and facilitate forward linkages towards rehabilitation and integration. We significantly focus on women artisans from tribal and rural geographies by providing them with some financial support, mentoring and marketing linkages. We aim to improve the quality of life of underserved communities in shorter and longer run through skills education, employment and entrepreneurship.
